Poolside

Designed by Katherine Hillbrand
with Donald Rowe

Space meanders in and out of the circumference of this lagoon-like poolside and surrounding structures. Solid concrete walls at the pool house give way to timber trusses that in turn exit the building to form a trellised outdoor terrace. The buildings morph from solid to void, containment and release. A vine-covered wire fence that surrounds the pool connects the pool house and the backside of a garage. A simple cube-shaped mechanical house sits quietly at an end. A minimal timber stair at its side leads to a sunning deck.

This loosely joined composition stands in protest against life’s hectic demands.
