Cottage Kitchen

Designed by Jody McGuire

The kitchen renovation and addition of this cozy bungalow near Minnehaha Creek reimagine functional areas, celebrate artistic expression and offer inventive ways of expanding space.

With only twelve additional square feet, the Creek House has a kitchen expansion that accommodates the practical demands of a bustling family and reshapes the way the owners interact with their living environment. The kitchen became fourteen inches wider, and this allows for a much more functional and comfortable flow through the galley. We included an addition for an 80 square foot sitting area and corner window at the east end of the house. A small and efficient mudroom is integrated in a back entry, striking a balance between style and utility, to offer a graceful transition between the outdoors and the welcoming interior. A transition zone that is most needed in a Minnesota winter!

The attic space was also reclaimed for family use. By adding insulation and finish materials, the family was able to capture a new space for a play and work-at-home haven, maximizing every inch for optimal utility and comfort. This gives the family an upstairs escape that feels worlds away.  A colorful stair mural, crafted by the owners’ daughter, echoes the boundless joy found within the home.
