Humlebi House

Designed by Jody McGuire

with Sarah Gastler and Katie Leaf

Nestled in a Minneapolis corner lot one block from the Mississippi River and Lake Street, this project harmoniously blends the timelessness of midcentury modernism and the craftsmanship of Scandinavian design. Tailored to the client’s passion for weaving, the design brings tactile elements to the forefront. The Humlebi House, named after the Danish word for bumblebee, celebrates texture through woven fabrics, warm wood and pops of primary colors.

The house has an intimate connection to its private courtyard, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor living through large glass windows and sliding doors. Inside, clean lines and curated furniture evoke the marriage of midcentury warmth and Scandinavian quality. Sustainable design practices are seamlessly integrated with eco-friendly materials and a tight building envelope.

The Humlebi House is a canvas for self-expression and a haven for sophisticated living. With this project, we celebrate the beauty of craft, design and landscape in the heart of Minneapolis.
