This new family cabin replaced a loved but failing structure that belonged to the family for generations. The current owners, in consideration of their children and grandchildren, sought an efficient, sound and expansive retreat to gather and continue the collective joy and memory-making for the next century. Inspired by the scale and details of existing on-site structures, the new cabin was broken into two masses: a three-story compact sleeping wing and a low-slung vaulted gathering pavilion. The functional forms are separated by a central breezeway where arrival is welcomed by views of the lake.
